farmers market orangesPROSPECT PARK - Before a packed house in the Council Chambers Saturday, the community celebrated Black History Month with honors for Passaic County Freeholder Theodore Best Jr. and  longtime borough resident Ruth Franklin.

Municipal officials said the 86-year-old Franklin had never missed voting in an election in more than 60 years. On hand to present her award were Mayor Mohamed Khairullah, Council President Robert Artis, and council members Anand Shah, Adnan Zakaria, Felicia Ortiz, and Esther Perez.
